A small creek trickles down the valley of Takamatua as native birds sing in the trees. In the spring the fragrance of the blossoming garden fills the air. In the autumn the valley becomes painted with rich colours. Takamatua means “to rest after a journey” and here at Coombe Farm we invite you to do just that.
Bring your walking boots to walk the many farm tracks or cycle the Summit Road and take in the breathtaking views of Akaroa Harbour—an extinct volcanic crater.
Maps of walking tracks are available at doc.govt.nz
Akaroa is a popular place to swim with dolphins, or you can enjoy their company from the many handful of boats that cruise the harbour. See the white-flippered penguin at Pohatu penguin colony or visit the colonies of New Zealand sea lions and fur seals on kayak tours.
There's the world famous Giant's House with its beautiful mosaic gardens, and a wide variety of shops, restaurants and cafés in the historic French village of Akaroa. You might also consider a visit to the Takamatua Valley Vineyards.
